I just received this and started taking this on Monday Feb 1 2010. Now its Thursday and I can say that I see a big difference. I suffered from Anxiety, ADD, and bouts of depression. I noticed a change the 2nd day i started taking this. I only take 2 in the morning along with 2 St. Johns. My problem was not being able to focus and very bad memory. My brain felt like a run away train and I was just all over the place with not being able to get anything accomplished at all. I read the book Magnificent Mind and it explained how the brain works and natural remedies to cure different ailments. I have accomplished more in the last few days then I have accomplished in a very long while. I feel extremely focused and very motivated again. I dont have the chatter going on in my brain and just have focused thoughts and I feel very clear. Everyone is different and I am thankful that I have my life back and can do great things..

In the past i have had insomnia due to the fact that i cant shut my brain off, when the lights go off, the virtual to do list starts up and last for hours! However I never took any sleep aid because everything i had tried, the regular Tylenol pm etc. and "good nite sleep" pills would make me drowsy well into the next day.
This all changed when i tried these wonderful things. Its great, i take 1 pill about 30-45 mins before i go to bed and when i turn off the lights, my brain stops and a deep slumber sets in. Yet i still wake up at the usual time, with plenty of energy for the upcoming day.
Definitely try this, its a lifesaver, and its all natural!

It is very easy to overdose on melatonin because most preparations contain much more of this hormone than the body needs. As we age, our bodies make less melatonin, especially in the small hours of the night so we wake up convinced it is morning already. However like with every hormone, replacing what is missing is a matter of replacing exactly what is missing, not more. According to many published papers out of MIT, Boston University and other academic institutions, the amount of melatonin that we need is no more than 0.3 mg, not 3 mg. Taking more leaves you with a hangover and eventually the body may even stop making its own melatonin since you are supplying it from a bottle. Since it is almost impossible to get 0.3 mg these days , I always cut the l mg dose in half using a pill cutter . ).5 mg is probably close enough to the dose I need.

These pills are great especially for someone like me that doesn't need help staying/falling asleep often but very much so every now and then. They will knock you out and you won't wake up until the next morning but as my doctor advised me, I should only use it every once in a while because your body will diminish its own melatonin production if I use it as an everyday supplement before bed. But as a suplement itself, it does just as it is supposed to, put you to sleep like a baby! Two thumbs up!

I love this product. I have taken many Sleeping pills as I have trouble falling asleep on many occasions. These do not leave you in a fog the next morning, I wake up refreshed and rejuvinated. They don't "knock you out", but about 20 mins after taking them you feel relaxed and ready to sleep. It definately makes you sleepy and helps with waking during the night. I had a big physics test and took 2 the night before the test and slept like a baby. Usually I am up and down the whole night before a test. This product works like a charm!

I've tried GNC's melatonin at the same strength and man, what a difference with NB. Long's Drugs carries these guys and one pill puts you to sleep right away or in cases where you're really not tired, 2 pills at the most. I've never seen anything like it. It's much better than the artificials that's for sure. No side effects, nothing. With GNC's formulation, I found myself gradually needing 3 pills to get the same weak effect after a while-and this is nominally 15mg of melatonin. Go figure.

PharmaGaba has reduced my anxiety level in a matter of a couple of hours since using it. Before taking it, I was anxious, irritable, and more- a real B. I am way more calm now and actually got a good nights sleep last night. My blood pressure was actually lower, too. Major stress for the last couple of years actually depleted my GABA -I think I have this right because taking it really made a big difference. I use this product for occasional sleeplessness. About 20 minutes after taking it, I get quite sleepy, and can instantly fall asleep. The effect lasts perhaps 2-4 hours. Thus, if you have trouble falling asleep (not staying asleep), this product will help. I found it much more effective than the .3 mg, 3 mg, and 5 mg tablets. Melatonin is a hormone that is produced naturally in our bodies by the pineal gland. It has many functions, but perhaps the main function is to regulate the body wake/sleep cycle, thus, its use as an occassional sleep aid.
Because this is a large dose of Melatonin, it is always best to consult with your MD before using. Melatonin can interact with other body systems and medications. For this reason, I downloaded a precaution sheet from the University of Maryland on melatonin. (see below):
Precautions:
Some people may have vivid dreams or nightmares when they take melatonin. Taking too much melatonin may disrupt circadian rhythms (your "body clock").
Melatonin can cause drowsiness if taken during the day. If you are drowsy the morning after taking melatonin, try taking a lower dose.
Additional side effects include stomach cramps, dizziness, headache, irritability, decreased libido, breast enlargement in men (called gynecomastia), and decreased sperm count.
Pregnant or nursing women should not take melatonin because it could interfere with fertility.
Some studies show that melatonin supplements worsened symptoms of depression. For this reason, people with depression should consult their doctor before using melatonin supplements.
Although many researchers believe that melatonin levels go down with age, newer evidence has brought this theory into question. People older than 65 should ask their doctor before taking melatonin supplements, so blood levels of this hormone can be monitored.
Possible Medication Interactions:
If you are being treated with any of the following medications, you should not use melatonin without first discussing it with your health care provider.
Antidepressant medications -- In an animal study, melatonin supplements reduced the antidepressant effects of desipramine and fluoxetine (Prozac). More research is needed to know if the same thing would happen in people. In addition, fluoxetine (a member of a class of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs) can cause low levels of melatonin in people.
Antipsychotic medications -- A common side effect of antipsychotic medications used to treat schizophrenia is a condition called tardive dyskinesia, which causes involuntary movements. In a study of 22 people with schizophrenia and tardive dyskinesia caused by antipsychotic medications, those who took melatonin supplements had fewer symptoms compared to those who did not take the supplements.
Benzodiazepines -- The combination of melatonin and triazolam (Halcion) improved sleep quality in one study. In addition, a few reports have suggested that melatonin supplements may help people stop using long-term benzodiazepine therapy. (Benzodiazepines are habit-forming.)
Blood pressure medications -- Melatonin may make blood pressure medications like methoxamine (Vasoxyl) and clonidine (Catopres) less effective. In addition, medications in a class called calcium channel blockers may lower melatonin levels. Calcium channel blockers include:
*Nifedipine (Procardia)
*Amlodipine (Norvasc)
*Verapamil (Calan, Isoptin)
*Diltiazem (Cardizem)
*Felodipine (Plendil)
*Nisoldipine (Sular)
*Bepridil (Vascor)
Beta-blockers -- Use of beta-blockers may lower melatonin levels in the body. Beta-blockers include:
*Acebutolol (Sectral)
*Atenolol (Tenormin)
*Bisoprolol (Zebeta)
*Carteolol (Cartrol)
*Metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL)
*Nadolol (Corgard)
*Propranolol (Inderal)
Blood-thinning medications (anticoagulants) -- Melatonin may increase the risk of bleeding from anticoagulant medications such as warfarin (Coumadin).
Interleukin-2 -- In one study of 80 cancer patients, use of melatonin along with interleukin-2 led to more tumor regression and better survival rates than treatment with interleukin-2 alone.
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) -- NSAIDs such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) may lower levels of melatonin in the blood.
Steroids and immunosuppressant medications -- Melatonin may cause these medication to lose their effectiveness. Do not take melatonin with corticosteroids or other medications used to suppress the immune system.
Tamoxifen -- Preliminary research suggests that the combination of tamoxifen (a chemotherapy drug) and melatonin may benefit some people with breast and other cancers. More research is needed to confirm these results.konedog
