Mucinex Nasal Spray, Full Force, 3/4 - Ounce Review

This product is by far, hands down, no contest, the absolute BEST of it's kind. No other nasal congestion medicine comes close.
The one thing I hate the most about colds and allergies is the lack of sleep from the inability to breathe. NyQuil used to be my go-to drug, but ever since they reformulated so that the product would not have to be locked up behind the pharmacy counter, it's been rendered ineffective and completely useless (we can thank all the crackhead meth manufacturers for that one... thanks, assh*les). I no longer fear catching a cold because no matter how crappy I feel, I'll be able to breathe which means I'll be able to sleep.
It doesn't quite work for the full 12 hours (as the box states), but it does work for a solid 6 to 8, it works thoroughly, and most importantly, it works IMMEDIATELY.
This product was discontinued for awhile which was one of the worst things that has ever happened to me, but it is now back on the market in only a few stores: Rite Aid, Walmart, CVS, and Walgreen's, for about $10.00 (I've only been able to find it at Walgreen's thus far). So there's no need to order it online and there's certainly no need to pay more than $10.00 for it (some sellers are preying on the people who don't know it's back). And just for your information, any pictures of this product you may come across online featuring a wider box with a blue theme is the old stuff; the slimmer package in the purplish-pink is the new stuff.
I'm so afraid that it's gonna go away again that I bought 4 boxes. It's THAT good.

Mucinex 100 Immediate Extended Release Tablets (600mg) Review

Being a long-time sinus sufferer, I found the benefits of guiafenesin years before it became "MUCINEX". Without it, my sinuses get plugged and irritated within a few days, setting me up for recurrent infections. It works as an "expectorant" which means it helps keep the mucus thinned so your sinuses can clear more easily and don't become a breeding ground for bacteria and /or viruses.
As a clinic-based, practicing RN, I know that Mucinex / guiafenesin is often recommended by physicians, and is a safe product with very few side effects or drug interactions. (NO, I'm not getting paid by anyone to say any of this!)
Mucinex in this Extended Release formula minimizes the number of daily doses down to once or twice daily depending on your personal needs. This 100 tablet bottle is definitely the cheapest way to purchase - I had been getting it at WalMart for the past few years (until my smart sister told me to check for it on Amazon :-) in the 40 tablet bottles for almost $20 per bottle!
If you have sinus problems, especially chronic ones, or are prone to recurring infections, Mucinex is certainly worth a try.

There are so many cough formulas on the market that it is easy to get confused on what to buy. Here is a guide:
Cough medicines are categorized as EXPECTORANTS or SUPPRESSANTS, each may be sold separately or in combination medications, like this one. They're also found in cold formulas that include pain relievers (analgesics such as acetaminophen (Tylenol)), decongestants (pseudoephedrine), and antihistamines (diphenhydramine).
This product has a cough suppressant (dextromethorphan), combined with an expectorant (Guaifenesin). The purpose of an expectorant is to loosen phlem so that it can be coughed up and out. Take an expectorant with a full glass of water, as water is an excellent expectorant. Also, drink plenty of fluids if you are congested. Hot liquids, such as chicken soup, tea and honey--work especially well. Breathing humidified air also moistens and soothes irritated airways, and loosens mucous.
A cough SUPPRESSANT works by calming the cough reflex in the brain. While it's not wise to stop a cough that produces colored phlegm (colored phlegm has bacteria in it), suppressants can relieve a dry, hacking unproductive cough. Suppressants are also helpful when you're exhausted from coughing and need to sleep. DEXTRMETHORPHAN (DM) is the most common active ingredient in nonprescription suppressants. Dextromethorphan has come under attack as not being effective in suppressing coughs. There is research on both sides of the issue, some that support it and others that recommend avoiding dextromethorphan. I personally have not found it effective in suppressing my coughs. Perhaps the very best cough suppressant is one which contains codeine. Codeine can be helpful as a nighttime cough remedy because it has a slight sedative effect on the central nervous system. It is available by prescription only.
Something to consider... since so many manufacturers now combine cough medicines with many other medicines, such as Tylenol for pain, a nasal decongestant, and/or an anti-histamine, I think it is wise to select a cough medicine that has ONLY the ingredients that are appropriate for your symptoms. That way you're not wasting your money on unnecessary ingredients, you spare yourself unnecessary side effects, and you're getting only the medication that your body needs.konedog

Mucinex Maximum Strength Expectorant Guaifenesin, 14 Count Review

Mucinex Maximum Strength Expectorant Guaifenesin, 14 Count

I have dealt with congestion, both pulmonary and sinus, for many years. Back in the day, I could get plain guaifenesin by prescription, but Mucinex is a fine substitute. Pricey, true, but so worth it to keep secretions thin so I am able to get rid of them. For me, it thins sinus congestion equally as well as chest, so that sinuses are able to drain and relieve the inevitable headache. This is the best price per tablet that I have found to date, and I will continue to purchase from Amazon.

Mucinex Expectorant, Bi-Layer Tablets, 100-Count Bottle Review

I have used extended release guaifenesin (the active drug in Mucinex) for many years to help with sinus drainage and chronic bronchitis. It really works to clear out the lungs and my MD tells me it helps reduce sinus drainage as well. I stocked up on the prescription form of guaifenesin just before the FDA pulled all extended release guaifenesin from the market except for Mucinex. The reason for this action was somewhat esoteric and it allowed Mucinex to have a monopoly on the extended release form. Well, my horde of prescription guaifenesin finally ran out and I started using Mucinex. It works that same as the old prescription drugs because it is the same thing (they are both extended release guaifenesin). But, Mucinex is very expensive. So, I switched to immediate relase guaifenesin and found that it works just as well at a significant cost savings. The only thing is that you will have to take more immediate release tablets to equal a 12-hour extended release tablet. If you can't let go of the Mucinex, consider taking the immediate release during the day and Mucinex at night. You will save a lot of money. Mucinex is the only extended release tablet on the market. So, if it is guaifenesin and it is not Mucinex then it is an immediate release tablet. Check the price differences.
