I added a star to somewhat offset the negative reviews on this product. This is definitely not the best multivitamin out there, but it is one of the better ones I've taken as an active person. My training regiment is fairly demanding with me running 3-4 miles 4-5 times a week and doing heavy calisthenics 4 times a week with one day set for weight training, it is tough and I'm always looking for a good multivitamin to help my body recover, especially during my two days off. This pill definitely does a fair job at that, although I would caution to follow the directions printed on the label.
Which gets me to something really important. A lot of the negative reviews on this product seems to hint at people taking this improperly. You should ALWAYS consult with your doctor before adding any supplements to your regular diet (or before changing anything in your routine diet and exercise)! This is important because he/she might be able to advice for or against a particular brand or supplement based on your personal fitness and above all, they'll remind you to follow the instructions on the label, which for this pill states it should be taken with a meal.
So basically please realize that this is for a more active individual, you should consult your doctor before adding any supplements to your diet, and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE carefully read the labels on anything you buy that will obviously affect your health.

GNC Mega Men Sport 180 caplets ex 05-2011 Review

GNC Mega Men Sport 180 caplets ex 05-2011
Average Reviews:

I have been using Mega Men vitamins since 2003 and I've been using Mega Men Sport since about 2007. I swear by these vitamins. I truly feel different when I am taking these vitamins, nay sayers may say that is a placebo effect, but whatever it is I feel more energized when I'm taking these vitamins. I also feel more alert and able to think on my feet when taking these. A good comparison is when situations came up and I did not take these vitamins for about two months. After a couple weeks of not being on Mega Men I started to feel cranky and tired up until I resupplied with these vitamins. After my resupply the results weren't immediate, but after a few days taking the vitamins I was back on my feet and ready to go.
One of the side effects will be that your urine will turn like a neon yellow. It was funny, but it made me wonder what was going on. I used to work for a nutritionist and when I asked him about it he told me not to worry that it was just large amounts of B vitamin making its way through my system and that it doesn't necessarily mean that I'm peeing my money away. I do recommend you take these with a glass (8 oz) of water and then continually drink water throughout the day. I notice that the more water i drink with these the less neon yellow comes out.
These vitamins are loaded with your daily values, and then some, of needed vitamins such as: Vitamins A, C, D, E, K, B-6, B-12, etc. They are also loaded with things that are great for energy and fat loss such as: Green Tea Extract, alpha-Lipoic Acid, Choline, and Inositol.
These vitamins can be a little pricier than most, but you get what you pay for. When I was trying to save a few bucks I tried about two other brands (Vitamin World house brand and One a Day) and one made my stomach hurt so bad (Vitamin World) while the other (One a Day) felt as though it did nothing. These vitamins sell for about $29 on the GNC website, which is about the same price here ($24); however, if you are an Amazon Prime member you will save about five bucks on the delivery charges. Regardless of which website you choose, pony up the cash and get these vitamins! You'll thank me for the difference they make!

Just Once Men's One Multi Review

Just Once Men's One Multi
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a chemist, I am very aware that some forms of vitamins are better absorbed than others. Rainbow Light's Men's One Multi is very good.
I must start off by saying that no multivitamin is perfect. There is no multivitamin out there that has all vitamins and minerals in the ideal forms, nor is there is a multivitamin that will have all your daily nutritional needs in every single area. Supplementation from another source is still going to be necessary... although a good multivitamin can really cut down the cost because if it's a good multi, then one will not have to supplement much.
First, I want to start off saying that it boggles my mind that Amazon does not provide the nutrition label for any of the supplements that they sell. One has to either go to the store and find the supplement, or find it on another website. Amazon needs to fix this problem.
Now, about this multivitamin. The things I really like about this multivitamin is that it is 100% natural, and a food-based multivitamin. Nothing in this vitamin is synthetic. It doesn't contain any objectionable ingredients like titanium dioxide, nor does it contain any fillers.
Another nice thing about this vitamin is that it contains probiotics, vegetable extract, saw palmetto, lycopene, etc.
Probably the best feature of this vitamin is that while most vitamin brands use cheap forms of minerals, this multi is mainly good with the only exceptions being calcium and magnesium. Other than calcium and magnesium, all minerals are in their most absorb-able form, either as the citrate form or the amino acid chelate form. The forms you do not want to see are oxide forms of minerals, or the carbonate form for calcium. Unfortunately this multi does have calcium as calcium carbonate and magnesium as magnesium oxide. But the fortunate thing about it, is that the amounts of calcium and magnesium it uses are very negligible, so one will still want to supplement calcium and magnesium elsewhere, and from there get one that contains either calcium citrate/malate (not calcium carbonate, eggshell calcium, or coral calcium) along with magnesium citrate.
This multivitamin also contains vitamin A as 50% beta-carotene, which is the safest form of vitamin A. I would prefer that all of the vitamin A would be in the beta-carotene form, but as I said earlier, no multi is perfect.
Selenium is in its active form as selenomethionine, but unfortunately the label doesn't state whether or not it is in the L-selenomethionine form or the D-selenomethionine form. I am assuming it's L-selenomethionine, but anyone who has taken an organic chemistry or biochemistry course would know that the chirality of a molecule can make all the difference in the world. But this multi contains 200mcg of selenium, which the latest research says is the optimal amount of selenium to get the most health benefits.
To me, none of the short comings of this vitamin are really that big of a deal, especially since I haven't really found anything much better. Most of the minerals are in their ideal form, which is fantastic, it has vegetable extracts, and it has at least 50% of vitamin A in the beta-carotene form.
Now, as I said earlier, there is still some supplements that will need to be taken to overcome the short comings of this multi. This multivitamin contains 800IU of vitamin D, which according to my doctor, the average adult should be taking about 2000IUs daily. So I supplement vitamin D to get the other 1200IU. Another thing, is this vitamin contains negligible amounts of calcium & magnesium (which in this case, this is good because calcium & magnesium are in their undesirable forms), so one may want to find a calcium & magnesium supplement, in their ideal forms.
Other than that, everything else in this multi-vitamin is really good and it is rare to find a multi of this quality.
Saying everything I just, there is something that can make or break everything about this vitamin. And that is that this multi is in a tablet form. The ideal form of a vitamin is either liquid or capsule because tablets can be hard to digest, and in some cases, some manufacturers have been found that their vitamins don't dissolve fast enough (and yes, this even happens to expensive brands that you'd find in a health food store).
To find this out, get a glass of vinegar and heat it to about 98 degrees farenheit (approximately the same temp as the human body) and let this tablet sit in there for about 30 minutes. If it dissolves, it should dissolve just fine in the stomach, if it doesn't, then it is junk. I haven't done this, but every good thing about this vitamin would be wasted if it doesn't break down.

Nature's Way Alive Multivitamin Review

Nature's Way Alive Multivitamin
Average Reviews:

In the past I've taken multi-vitamins and felt as if they just weren't really doing anything for me. As a result, I stop taking them and over time didn't really feel any different. (Either positive or negative.)
Recently my Dad and I began taking these and over the course of 3 weeks we both felt overall better. It increased both of our energy levels and even improved (not to get gross) our "bathroom habits."
We ran out of them and stopped taking them for about a week and 1/2 and did we notice a difference! Less energy and a slight change in "movements."
I picked up more vitamins for both of us and we noticed the change again rather quickly.
I have never really been the type of person who endorses or depends on vitamins, but I would definitely recommend these to others and have done so to my friends and family.

New Chapter Wholemega 1000mg Review

New Chapter Wholemega 1000mg
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This supplement is good for people who do NOT get enough nuts, greens, and fish on a daily basis.
Wholemega is not a substitute for Omega 3 supplements that provide higher amounts of EPA and DHA.
These capsules are a bit of a challenge to swallow (I recommend something thick like Slimfast or V8) and can give a bit of a fishy aftertaste.
I take both the Wholemega and Omega 3 supplements daily (for a total of 2 grams of Omega oils) but have to watch for low blood pressure and excessive bleeding because I already eat a diet high in salmon, nuts, and greens.
I've only taken the Wholemega for a couple of weeks but the most obvious changes from five years of Omega 3 supplements have been thicker hair growth and fewer problems with osteoarthritis. My heart is healthy and my vision and memory haven't gotten any worse but the supplements haven't prevented recurring skin cancers.
Nutrition Action has a great article online titled "Omega Medicine? - Is fish oil good for what ails you?" Here's their bottom line:
So far, there's decent evidence that DHA and EPA--the omega-3 fats in fish oil--can reduce your risk of a heart attack, but not your risk of cancer, memory loss, or macular degeneration.
- Eat fatty fish like salmon twice a week. That would supply 500 to 1,000 mg a day of DHA plus EPA.
- If you're a vegetarian, look for foods or supplements with DHA from algal oil.
- If you have heart disease, follow the American Heart Association's advice to take 1,000 mg a day of DHA + EPA from fish oil. If you have side effects like burping, take them at bedtime or ask your doctor for a prescription for pure fish oil.
- Taking more than 3,000 mg a day of DHA plus EPA may cause bleeding.

Qunol Ultra High Absorption All Natural Liquid CoQ10 100mg 60-Servings Review

Qunol Ultra High Absorption All Natural Liquid CoQ10 100mg 60-Servings
Average Reviews:

I Used Qunol liquid CoQ10 long before I found it on Amazon. I loved it then all the sudden it disappeared. Because I am on a statin drug, CoQ10 is imperitive for me to take but the capsule form wasn't always absorbed and it was hard to get the right amount. Out of desperation I went to Google and was led to Amazon. I truly wasn't aware that Amazon had such an array of health products. Anyway, Qunol is like drinking sunshine....I feel it work and it is the most pleasant tasting of any liquid supplement. For me, the dosage is correct and so easy to take. I think the most important thing however, is that I feel the quality of this product from the very first dose to the last in the bottle. There is no separation, no grit in the bottom and a consistent taste. Needless to say, Qunol has a buyer for life.

New Chapter Blood Pressure Take Care Review

New Chapter Blood Pressure Take Care
Average Reviews:

I have been taking these for about one month. Without changing anything else, my BP dropped about 2 points systolic and 1 point diastolic. The caps contain 300mg of grapeseed extract which according to a new study from the University of California at Davis found that when subjects were given 300 mg of grape seed extract, their systolic pressure (the top number) was lowered by an average of 12 points. At the same time, diastolic pressure (the bottom number) dropped by 8 points. What's more, those who took the supplement also reduced their LDL (bad) cholesterol. And three previous studies by this same research team found that grape seed extract may prevent atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries).
The New Chapter product Blood Pressure Take Care ingredients:
Grapeseed extract (MegaNatural?-BP(tm))
300 mg
*
FutureNatant(tm) Proprietary blend (L. Bulgaricus, S. thermophilus, B. infantis, cells' metabolic substances)
100 mg
*
Hawthorn (flower and leaf) extract
75 mg
*
Motherwort (aerial parts) extract
40 mg
*
Grape Juice extract (MegaNatural?)
25 mg
*
Other ingredients: Modified cellulose (capsule),apple fiber, maltodextrin, and silica.
Naturally gluten free.
In just the one month that I have been taking it, my LDL has lowered according to my recent blood test. I am hopeful that after another month, I will see more improvement.
