Tylenol Precise Pain Relieving Cream 2.5-Ounce (Pack of 2) Review

When this arrived at my door I knew immediately what was in the package as the menthol odor was so strong. (However, it is interesting to note that the smell dissapates a bit upon use and eventually thins to an almost baby-powderish minty odor that may be the biggest improvement this formula offers over its competitors.) I was initially excited to see what Tylenol would offer the world in the form of a pain relieving cream and was a bit disappointed to find that it's basically just Bengay without the camphor.
Tylenol Precise relieves minor aches and pains but for those with more serious pain issues such as back or joint injuries or even arthritis, this cream isn't likely to do much for you. In fact, it's really little different from the other major brands on the market. Some will prefer this cream over the others based on its consistency and odor, but in terms of effectiveness, Tylenol isn't offering anything new with this "Precise" formula. A 3 star evaluation is "OK" and it is the same evaluation I would give to Bengay and Icy Hot in terms of effectiveness.Because I feel it's extremely important to know what's in products intended for self-medication, I have provided the following information:

Tylenol Acetaminophen Extra Strength (500 mg), 225-Count Cool Caplets (Pack of 2) Review

Tylenol is an FDA approved over-the-counter medication that contains the active ingredient "acetaminophen". Acetaminophen is an analgesic (pain reducing) drug that treats mild to moderate pain, making it an acceptable headache reliever, or a medication that treats mild strains, sprains, toothaches, etc. It also acts to reduce fever (antipyretic).
The customary adult dose is 2 tablets every 4-6 hours as needed.
Acetaminophen is commonly used in place of aspirin for those allergic to aspirin. One drawback of Acetaminophen is that it does not reduce inflammation (therefore, it has limited use in arthritis swelling reduction). As with all medications, there are side-effects, although Tylenol has very few. However, the major side-effect is associated liver damage. Don't take Tylenol if you have any liver disease, such as hepatitis, or have alcohol-related liver disease, or are a heavy drinker. And always (always!) never exceed the maximum daily amount (which is 4 grams/day, or 8 tablets of extra-strength Tylenol). If you suffer from any sort of liver disorder or have any liver damage, do not use Tylenol at all. Finally, don't take the maximum dose for days in a row, as you risk liver damage.
Tylenol is considered safe for all three trimesters for pregnant women.
Tylenol (Acetaminophen) came into great prominence when aspirin fell out of favor due to the incidence of Reye's Syndrome and aspirin in children up to 18 years of age.
Tylenol is the manufacturer's proprietary name for acetaminophen. There is a generic form of acetaminophen sold over-the-counter, and this version is much cheaper than "Tylenol". The generic forms are just as effective but cost less Acetaminophen Tablets Regular Strength 325 Mg -100 ea.
Sometimes Acetaminophen is combined with other medications for dual action. For example, Tylenol PM has diphenhydramine (the active ingredient in Benadryl), which causes sedation and acts as a sleeping pill. Diphenhydramine also is an anti-histamine, so it works for itching and allergies too.
Tylenol is packaged in different strengths: Extra-strength at 500 mg per tablet, Standard (325 mg per tablet), and and children's dose of 80 mg. Tylenol may also be packaged in a timed-release version, called "extended release". Rather than the tablet dissolving all at once in the stomach, the tablet slowly releases acetaminophen throughout the digestive tract.
Tylenol (acetaminophen) is a good product for minor aches and pains. For more moderate pain, consider Ibuprofen in the 400 mg dosage Ibuprofen Tablets 200 mg Compare to Advil - 500 Tablet (2 Pack) - Member's Mark Brand Ibuprofen also brings down a fever better than Tylenol, although there are more side-effects, primarily stomach upset.
