IN A NUTSHELL: GOOD VENDOR - GOOD PRICE - CORRECT FORM
Thiamin is best absorbed in capsules which usually cost more and 100 mg. is a good dose.
SO WHAT'S THIAMIN [B1] GOOD FOR:
What is it?
ACCORDING TO HEALTHNOTES:
Vitamin B1 [thiamin] is is a water-soluble vitamin needed to process carbohydrates, fat, and protein. Every cell of the body requires vitamin thiamin to create the fuel the body runs on, which is known as "adenosine triphosphate" (or ATP).
Nerve cells require vitamin B1 in order to function normally.
BUT THERE IS MORE TO THIAMIN:
----- *- My personal experiences:
It is very useful for people that suffer from GERD if taken prior to eating in quantities of about 200-300 mg., and it may work better if used with Pantothenic acid [another B-Complex vitamin] for relief of symptoms. Unlike strong medicines like prilosec, previsid or cimetidine, there are virtually no drug interactions or side-effects when using thiamin for this purpose, unlike the drug counterparts.
If one takes common loop-diuretics, such as "Lasix", thiamin therapy is often incorporated in the prevention and/or treatment of congestive heart failure which is often an unwanted side-effect of loop-diuretic therapy. The thiamin greatly decreases the swelling and other obvious symptoms.
Of equal importance, thiamin is also a good preventive for thiamin defeciency-induced depression, that also comes with the use of common loop-diuretics and is especially prevalent in older people who are more prone to this frequently misdiagnosed ailment.
Where B1 [Thiamin] is found in our diets:
Wheat germ, whole wheat, peas, beans, enriched flour, fish, peanuts, and meat are all good sources of vitamin B1.
Vitamin B1 has been used in connection with the following conditions:
Recent scientific and empirical evidence has very strongly indicated the use of thiamin for the following;
-----***- Anemia [genetic thiamin-responsive anemia]
Recent scientic and empirical evidence has strongly indicated the use of thiamin for the following;
-----**- Alzheimer's disease
-----**- Canker sores
-----**- Childhood intelligence
-----**- Diabetes
-----**- Dialysis (for encephalopathy & neurologic damage; take only under medical supervision)
-----**- Hepatitis
-----**- Low back pain (in combination with vitamin B6 & vitamin B12)
Anecdotal and empirical evidence has suggested the use of thiamin for the following;
-----*- Cardiomyopathy
-----*- Dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation)
-----*- Fibromyalgia
-----*- HIV support
-----*- Multiple sclerosis
-----*- Pre and post-surgery health
While only about 2mg. per day is required to avoid beri-beri, therapeutic doses are generally much higher, particularly for GERD, Congestive Heart Failure. and Alzheimer's disease.
ABOUT BRANDS: SWANSON'S IS A GREAT VALUE - NOW & NATURE'S WAY ARE TOP PICKS!
Most major brands that have expiration dates are usually good as Thiamin will last a long time if kept from the heat and excessive light. This Swanson's brand product is the one I buy chiefly because it is the least expensive 100 mg. dose in capsule form. Other brands, such as, "Now" and "Nature's Way", to name a few, are just as good, but are often much more costly.[I AM NOT AFFILIATED WITH ANY PRODUCT OR COMPANY]
